Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to common questions about therapy sessions, scheduling, insurance, and fees. If you have any other questions about therapy sessions or mental health services, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
For Massachusetts residents, I provide treatment services in-person, virtually, or in a hybrid format depending on your clinical needs, preferences, and availability.
I am also a registered Florida telehealth provider and offer virtual services to patients located in Florida. You can learn more about Florida telehealth regulations here: https://flhealthsource.gov/telehealth/
Yes, when clinically appropriate and agreed upon in advance. Availability may depend on location and scheduling needs.
I don’t offer recurring evening or weekend sessions, but I do my best to provide occasional flexibility for urgent needs.
Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes. We may decide to meet for shorter or longer sessions based on your goals and treatment needs.
Most appointments are weekly at the start of therapy. As progress continues, we may space sessions further apart - such as biweekly or monthly - based on your preferences and treatment plan.
The length of therapy depends on your goals and the issues you’re addressing. Many patients see meaningful progress within 10–20 sessions while others prefer ongoing support for continued growth.
Yes. What you share in therapy is kept confidential and protected by law. This means that, in most situations, your information will not be shared with others without your written permission. There are a few important exceptions to confidentiality required by law, such as if there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse or neglect, or if records are subpoenaed by a court. These limits will be reviewed with you in more detail before we begin working together.
For more detailed information about how your information is used and protected, please review my Notice of Privacy Practices.
I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not bill insurance directly. This allows me to provide a highly personalized and confidential care experience without the limitations that are often imposed by insurance companies.
Most insurance companies provide different levels of coverage for “in-network” vs. “out-of-network” providers. If you wish to receive insurance reimbursement, it is very important that you find out what mental health services your insurance policy covers. I can provide a detailed medical receipt (called a “superbill”) for you to submit to your insurance for out-of-network benefits or for tax purposes.
Insurance coverage for therapy varies by plan. If your policy includes out-of-network benefits, you may be reimbursed for a portion of your session cost. I am happy to provide a superbill to help you file for reimbursement. Many people find it helpful to use a service, such as Reimbursify (https://reimbursify.com/), for submitting claims.
Payment is due at the time of each service and may be made by all major credit card (American Express, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover), HSA/FSA cards, ACH transfers, Zelle, or check.
Please reach out to inquire about my fee structure.
Under federal law (the No Surprises Act), you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) explaining the expected cost of your care if you are uninsured or not using your insurance benefits.
A Good Faith Estimate outlines the anticipated cost of services based on the information available at the time. For psychotherapy, this typically includes the cost of your initial evaluation and an estimate of ongoing sessions. Because therapy is individualized, the total number of sessions—and therefore total cost—may vary over time.
You will receive a Good Faith Estimate before your first appointment (typically within a few business days of scheduling), and you may request an updated estimate at any time during treatment.
Importantly, this estimate is not a contract and does not obligate you to begin or continue services.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059
